What our clothes are made of

Joey Bamboo pieces are made from bamboo viscose blended with a small amount of spandex for stretch. Bamboo viscose is soft against the skin, breathable, and moves with your little one instead of holding them still.

The fibre we use is TANBOOCEL® bamboo viscose staple fibre, spun by Hebei Jigao Chemical Fiber Co., Ltd. in Gaocheng, Hebei, China — one of the specialist bamboo viscose mills, rather than a general-purpose fabric supplier. The bamboo itself is grown and harvested in Sichuan.

We do not run our own mill, so the testing and certification below sits with the companies that make our fibre and our printing inks. We think it is more useful to show you exactly who holds what, with the numbers, than to put a row of logos on a page. Click any certificate to see it full size.

The inks we print with

Our prints are put down with textile pigment inks from Zhengzhou Hongsam, certified under OEKO-TEX® ECO PASSPORT and screened to ZDHC MRSL Conformance Level 1. The two pages after the certificate list all twelve inks it covers.

What STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® actually means

STANDARD 100 is an independent testing system for textiles. Every component of a certified article — the fibre, the thread, the snaps, the print — is tested against a long list of substances known to be harmful to human health. Articles certified in product class I, the class that covers babies and toddlers up to three years old, are held to the strictest limits in the system, because small children put fabric in their mouths.

A certificate always names the company that holds it and the specific articles it covers. Ours covers the bamboo viscose fibre at the mill stage.

Caring for bamboo

Wash cold on a gentle cycle, tumble dry low or hang to dry, and skip the fabric softener — bamboo is already soft, and softener coats the fibre and reduces its breathability. Small marks or indentations from folding in transit usually disappear after the first wash.
